The Society of Scottish Artists 126th Annual Exhibition

23rd Nov 2024 - 11th December 2024

As 2024 is now coming to a close, one of the major exhibitions I will be taking part is the SSA (Society of Scottish Artists) 126th Annual Exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy, the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh. This will be my first showcase with the society as their newly elected co-president. The art piece I will be exhibiting in the show is the abstract gunpowder portrait ‘This Place is Shelter’.

More than 200 works have been selected from more than 2000 entries. They include painting, sculpture, installations, video and performance.

Since it was founded in 1891, the SSA has had a proud history of promoting contemporary artists at all stages of their career. The Society's first show in 1892 exhibited work by Rodin, Raeburn and Rembrandt, alongside paintings by established Scottish artists such as Joseph Farquharson and Noel Paton.

Picasso, Munch and Paul Klee were three internationally known artists whose work was exhibited in the following decades, demonstrating the organisation's pioneering approach to bringing the latest developments in contemporary art to Scotland.

It is with great delight to announce that I have been accepted into the Royal Ulster Academy 142nd Annual Exhibition at the Ulster Museum, Belfast with my coloured gunpowder piece 'Cours Peiti Lapin Cours'.

Founded in 1879, the Royal Ulster Academy is the largest and longest established body of practicing visual artists in Northern Ireland. One of the founding principles of the Academy was to hold an annual exhibition of work by both members and non–members of merit. Now in its 143rd year, this event remains one of the highlights of the Northern Ireland arts calendar.
